After a recent delay Valve has announced the long-awaited Steam Deck will open for orders on February 25th, with the first lot going out on the 28th, giving those that signed up to reserve a unit the first chance to purchase the future of handheld gaming.
Steam Deck orders
In a short but sweet update Valve went over its plan to open orders on February 25th and begin sending consoles to the first inline from the 28th. Exciting!
Those that are lucky enough to receive an email on the 25th will have three days or 72 hours to place their order via an email. If not, their unit will be given to the next person in the queue.
Additional details for the curious:
- We will start sending invites shortly after 10:00 am on February 25th, PST
- Order emails are sent in the same order that reservations were made.
- You can only order the Steam Deck model that you originally reserved.
- Your reservation deposit will be applied to the final price of Steam Deck, and shipping costs are included.
Once Valve get through the first lot of orders and everything is going well, the company hopes to open orders to more people on a weekly basis.
Press units
After its press day a while back, Valve will start sending our press units for the first time, allowing tech YouTubers and websites to put the Steam Deck to the test right before it gets into the hands of the public. The embargo officially lifts on February 25th, but Valve has stated that we can expect some preview coverage and impressions before that, Linus Tech Tips 👀.
